Gender, as in "which box do I put you in" has always had exceptions. This is new to many. But I am old and sheltered enough to remember wrestling with homosexuality's existence, too.

You're talking gender, reply guy is talking sex. I don't think any forms ask for sex anymore except medical stuff.
"non-binary" is a gender term, surely...
