There's no good way to find them because there's no good nostr music app, and spam filtering is pretty broken on every nostr app so it's hard to find them using hashtags like tunestr or music
Idk if I count, I've posted some edits before https://video.nostr.build/9250b1a959772270e80eb9386450b3b9dc72e29d801c2be2a6fa1b9188daff32.webm
Wavlake sucks
Wavlake in great π. I upload my music there then I share it here on nostr.
Why? Serious question
Centralized
But how is it centralized? I don't remember. Let me check
Thanks. I am having issues with the link⦠does it only work if user is logged in?
I was told about a Nostr app called stems or something like that. Donβt seem to be able to find it
It should display regardless. nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg?
If youβre using the latest Primal or Damus version you might be able to see them in your feed also.
So, not really Nostr I guess.
* Uses nostr for logins but isn't actually a nostr app
* Doesn't offer any of the decentralization benefits of existing music sharing solutions like nostr or bittorrent
* Doesn't support doggie coin or Monero for payments
* References a Microsoft product in the name
* Probably supports the aforementioned Microsoft filetype but not better open web standards for audio files
Anyone is free to fact check me - this is all true about wavlake, right? #asknostr
Might try Damus, I am on Nostur. Thanks
I might not have heard about that one
nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg my issue is that I see the site, but the content will not load. I am on safari iPadOS.
Are the tracks Nostr events? So I am assuming that they control their library, and it is a single library. Meh
I've heard the tracks aren't nostr events. I couldn't figure out what standards they use with a quick bit of Google searching, I could be wrong
Quick back and forth with an AI about this, here is the summary.
Wavlake: A Centralized Platform with a Decentralized Facade?
Wavlake presents itself as a pioneer in open music distribution, leveraging the Nostr protocol. While it integrates aspects of decentralization, a closer look reveals a predominantly centralized structure, with Nostr primarily serving to enhance specific user interactions rather than underpinning core platform functions.
Firstly, the crucial element of music storage remains centralized. While Wavlake publishes metadata about tracks as Nostr events (using their self-defined, non-NIP-approved "Nostr Open Media" or NOM standard), the actual audio files reside on servers controlled by Wavlake. This means artists are reliant on Wavlake's continued operation for their music to be accessible.
Secondly, the artist onboarding and upload process further highlights this centralization. Artists cannot use their Nostr private keys (nsec) to sign into the Wavlake Studio to upload music. Instead, a traditional account creation and login are required, indicating a conventional web application backend managing content submission. Nostr's integration is primarily for listener-side features like identity and payments (zaps).
Finally, concerns about data manipulation and transparency reinforce this perception. Reports suggest Wavlake intentionally removed public data that allowed users to identify leaderboard manipulation, attributing it to a "bug" that remains unaddressed months later. This alleged act of obscuring data to protect certain users directly contradicts the principles of transparency and open access often associated with decentralized systems.
In essence, Wavlake employs Nostr for identity portability, metadata distribution to relays, and direct Lightning Network payments (zaps). These are genuinely decentralized elements. However, the centralized control over music file hosting, the traditional artist upload workflow, and alleged instances of data opacity demonstrate that Wavlake, while utilizing Nostr, operates as a centralized entity, strategically deploying decentralized components to enhance its appeal rather than fully embracing a decentralized ethos.
That seems like maybe an unusually smart AI π
It was Gemini, I find it more useful than ChatGPT or Gork, but it has its issues.
If you install Nostash and sign in with Safari using the extension can you see the page?
