I shed a tear every day knowing that Google is going to rug the entire Android ecosystem this fall by forcing dev KYC just to install APKs on most devices.

It sucks but apparently you will still be able to opt out. image As you already since forever have to "tap 7 times" to get non-play-store apps at all, I don't see the extra burden as very dramatic. It's a one-time thing. The worst about it is the 24h delay.

This is a bad thing…and a good thing; maybe it will push the development of linux phones.
They always had the power to do this, we need to deal with that problem sooner or later. Sounds like they're opting for later though?

You didn't need to enable developer settings before, just give permission to install apps for the file manager or the browser
