We are enslaved over time by repeatedly accepting offers until we become reliant on the one making the offers.
Freedom is having the ability to choose. Take the offer or walk away.
The most dangerous thing people can do is walk away from the king. They know it, and the scariest thing a person can do is work towards a position where they can do so.
But with freedom comes responsibility, inconvenience, and work. We must each assess where the balance is for us. This system does have great benefits, but at some point the cost is not worth it.
