Only issue is that too many private relays will have an unpleasant effect on the network. I would have less relays but more powerful and persistent ones.

Not everybody is going to run their own relays, more relays is always better as long as you dont have like 1000+ relays to pull from then its fine
I'm afraid that small relays will give up and just lose data. Infrastructure is a serious stuff.
