From Twitter:
My preacher this morning:
“I’ve counseled so many couples over the years who have said, ‘we fell out of love’. And what I came to find out was they didn’t fall out of love, they fell into debt. They couldn’t tell if they owned the house, or that house owned them. They couldn’t tell if they owned the car, or that car owned them.”
We know that finances is the NUMBER ONE reason couples fight and get divorced. It was the number one source of fights in my marriage as well for a LONG time.
So if we know that is the number one reason for problems in a marriage, why do continue to let it happen?
Because we wanna look cool and “we’ve made it”.
Because people are scared to talk about money and are more worried about impressing others.
As soon as I quit worrying about impressing others I lost a lot of friends. I still don’t have many.
However the relationship I gained with my wife, I wouldn’t trade for anything.
If you’re reading this and struggling, or in a great spot, I’m begging you to get on the same page with your spouse and don’t be afraid to lose people you thought were friends.
Everyone wants to see you do well, until you start lapping them around the track. Your spouse will actually be your loudest cheerleader, even though all you ever wanted to impress was others.
This is the way.
God Bless.
