Also... write docs, please, please write docs :) My kingdom for regular folks willing to contribute documentation, websites, blog posts, videos, etc.
As hard as we try, hyper-technical devs have blind spots. The best person to contribute something to the documentation is you. The person who just struggled with Tor, struggle setting up a Cloudflare Tunnel, file systems and ACLs, firewall rules, DNS, Certbot, Systemd, or whatever. This is all just “everyday stuff” to the standard nerd mantainer 🤓, documentation always have gaps.
And also please donate. Everyone has a threshold where they stop doing things purely out of the kindness of their hearts. Sure, it can last 20 or 30 years for some, but the equation is simple: more donations = more time spent doing FOSS work. No money, eventually no FOSS work.

Anyone can join an open source project. You can test the GitHub version and report bugs back, create guides for users, tweak the UI, refactor things to make thing easier to understand, translate, review PRs, create release notes, do a study on what users like or dislike in the app, suggest new UI elements, maybe build a simple website for the project, structure an FAQ, organize the developers in calls or in issues, do a marketing push, organize a local install fest, present the project in conferences, etc, etc, etc.
