For comparison to nostr: one of the memes I made got over a hundred upvotes on piefed yesterday, but the other one only got downvotes and psychologically abusive replies. Even for the post that got downvotes and abuse, at least maybe more people saw it than on nostr.

to be fair there are signifigantly more people on the fediverse
as an example some random rainbow text software i made got 9 or so upvotes, where here on nostr i'm sure it would have gotten 0
Still far fewer people on piefed than somewhere like reddit, where I assume I'm just gonna get downvotes and yet another ban when I start posting memes (but will double check in case I'm wrong)
well the proprietary/centralized platforms are all winning in user counts compared to anything else 💔
Places like piefed and bluesky are challenging that by making the best of small user bases. They might not have as many users, but they let people see your posts.
Then nostr is over here like: we have the least users, and we won't let them see your posts
(I am banned from bluesky and don't use it at all, just recognizing it as an example where there's increasing user count)
bluesky is only decentralized on paper, even if you gave me a thousand dollars i wouldn't be able to host an instance
but yeah, love piefed (although i'm on lemmy atm)
I hate how its user base lets people do stuff like ban me, but I like how piefed and lemmy are programmed to be like a much less centralized reddit
yeah in that sense nostr is the best technology
sadly with the least users
The user numbers are the real thing, there are just terrifyingly few people that care about human rights like free speech
Places with big user counts are full of people that actually approve of ostracizing others, like in ancient cities where the population could just vote to exile anyone
Human behavior has dark patterns here and we're trying to protect each other with the power of technology while extremely outnumbered
