On a dark night, John was traveling when robbers attacked him, seeking his wealth. He confessed he had nothing of value. Enraged, they tortured and killed him, leaving his body in the woods. A divine light revealed his remains to villagers, who tried to move it, but the body became immovable until a priest arrived. The priest read prayers, after which the holy relics were moved with great reverence and placed in the local church.
