MegaLag, a YouTube channel, exposed in December 2024 that Honey was hijacking affiliate codes from other websites and content creators, even when it couldn't offer coupons or cashback. This occurred by working behind the scenes with businesses to control which affiliate codes were used. This practice allowed Honey, owned by PayPal since 2020, to benefit from affiliate revenue that would have otherwise gone to others. As a result of the controversy, many Chrome users have uninstalled the extension.
