Not many people can grok the fact free markets don’t exist on a protocol level. By its very definition a software protocol enforces rules and conventions that govern communication. Bitcoin wouldn’t exist without rules and conventions that limit what you would consider a “free market”.

A free market can't exist without constraints. A free market can only exist when those constraints are applied equally to all participants.
