Not many people can grok the fact free markets don’t exist on a protocol level.
By its very definition a software protocol enforces rules and conventions that govern communication.
Bitcoin wouldn’t exist without rules and conventions that limit what you would consider a “free market”.

A free market can't exist without constraints.
A free market can only exist when those constraints are applied equally to all participants.
Similar to natural law, there is freedom within rules. Gravity is a constraint, but it also provides structure to the physical world so we can lead meaningful lives.

Free markets have enforcement mechanisms therefore are not “free”
