The Roman authorities demanded that Emilian, a young man living during the reign of Julian the Apostate, renounce his Christian faith and offer sacrifice to idols. Emilian refused. Enraged, the authorities sentenced him to be burned alive. As the flames engulfed him, Emilian remained steadfast, praying for his persecutors. It's said that the fire did not harm him until he finished his prayer.
