Why carve out a special place for them? Why can't they just post notes like everybody else? And if so, who decides who is allowed in this space and who is not?

They absolutely can just post notes like everyone else and that’s what Nostr is But the idea behind carving out a dedicated space isn’t about exclusion, it’s about visibility/structure/and trust and all the tools they would need I don’t know if your familiar with real whistleblowers, but they’d need more than just a note field on Nostr. New tools can be added for them on top of the protocol things like: Timed or conditional publishing Dead man’s switches , Encrypted attachments with selective disclosure And then Zero-knowledge proof systems to verify authenticity without exposing sources , for the rest of us They’d go troughs that process and get a label on their profile , no need for editors , the rest of Nostr can freely interact with them with whatever opinions they have
