You are perfectly correct. Maybe it's dawning onto some Bitcoiners that they have been duped into wanting SegWit and reject reasonable blockchain growth like Adam's 2 - 4 - 8 scaling proposal that would give us up to 56 non-custodoal transactions today at a very reasonable cost of storage all node operators could easily afford for the next decades. Bitcoiners were attacked by people like Greg and Luke (both at Blockstream at that time) for selling SegWit as the hottest shit in town like on one political spectrum and a loud mouth like Craig Wright and his sockpuppets that rendered any sensible scaling proposal mute because "infinite blocksize". It's time to revisit this fight. Luke was not your friend back then. Core was not your friend back then. Also guess who were the biggest profiteers. TradFi banksi for stopping its competition early with plenty of innovative power going down the drain of a still diafunctional non custodial LN and the CEX like Coinbase who basically established themselves as the new banks aka third parties.
