My kids tell me that i need to do video essays and not just interviews for my revolution.social podcast to take off... what do people think? Should i take a try?
They also say that I work on 'boring social media apps' but that's them just being teenagers i think.

They are spot on
Ehhhh skeptical.... I mean if you're recording with Zoom I guess you might as well put it up there. It seems to be the case that a lot of people consume podcasts that way these days.
For me personally, I find it weird to be sitting in front of a TV staring at a person's face for more than a few minutes. There's a reason why news anchors are shot from the waist up, sitting at a desk.
But hey, I'm just a crotchety ol' Millennial, IDK what the Yooths want....
My kids say that I work on “de-socialized media” and I don’t know that they’re wrong…
interesting. Why do they video essays is the way? Can they point to examples ?
Who do you think you making these apps for. The 60 year old. My G your kids are in the mix that you will be using your app. Ummm listen to them.
It seems that they are right in both statements.
Let’s listen more to young people. Now they are the majority.
Video essays you’ll feel like you have to prep more. Or maybe edit more if not…
I think they’re right. It’s a trend. Also they’re being teenagers… a few hours ago I received one from my one of my sons…
I was skateboarding in my teens, not on social media 🤙🏽
Your content today is for parents and people that give a shit about how social media works 💐
they are probably right!!
Yes! Kids enjoy different things than adults. If I listened to the podcasts in my teens that I listen to now, I would feel like I was doing a homework assignment. It is that, in a way. I like to listen to shows (and host shows) where I learn something.
if you want to play the algo game...
- long-from video essays
- clipping (OpusClip or use Whop if you really wanna head down that path)
- post short-form clips across reels, tiktok, and shorts
- drive audience to long-form content
warning: it feels gross and you may hate yourself
but sadly, it works
I always enjoy a good video essay, and it's probably a bit of a different niche that'd reach a different audience (+ more likely to be picked up in a social algo). Though it'd probably take a bunch of extra work scripting and editing to convey approximately the same information as a podcast would.
Also, I'd assume that few who doesn't make a hobby out of tech would find protocols interesting - but might find the benefits of a protocol interesting if it's slightly abstracted from explaining how things work under the hood.
That said, I've never done a podcast or made a long form video essay, so don't put too much stock in my 2c.
💯
