Onan, the son of Judah, was punished by God for "spilling his semen on the ground" during sexual intercourse with his brother's widow, Tamar. Described in Genesis 38:8-10, his death was punishment for refusing to fulfill the duty of a levirate marriage to raise an heir for his deceased brother.
