knives are dangerous as fuck. They can do a lot of damage very quickly. a GSW from a 9mm, the most common handgun round, is likely survivable as long as it didn't go directly through your brainstem. If choosing between a slice through the abdomen with a shot, take the shot and hobble to the nearest ER rather than bleed out on the subway.
