Thanks for asking. I was really enjoying how smooth the UX experience was on @Wisp though it has less features, but I have primarily used amethyst for years. My main issue as a user is simple because I am not that technical. I have no idea how relays work and don't want to touch the settings, but I would like for profile pictures and posts to show up consistently. I would like to press one or two buttons to get set up on relays (including the payment process if paid relays are necessary) Very often my feed looks like this: image
Amethyst is amazing, but nowadays, the sidebar has been overwhelming me, there are just too many options πŸ€―πŸ˜‚ for me is like having 3 apps in to 1 or something like that. One wisp feature I miss is the color and theme settings, apart from the fast load of profile pics and names. Good job anyway πŸ™
Working through it right now.. Usually we just check your own Index and Search relay lists to download these things, but maybe we need to fall back to other relays when those dont work or if the user you want to see has a completely broken outbox setup and their posts are not in the relays they are listing.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they aren't good, I just don't use them. For example, calls feature should be disabled by default and not making me navigate all the options to discover there are activated. And in my opinion, that feature should be in apps like 0xchat, not in a Twitter/Instagram-style client (this is my point when I said its like having 3 apps). But that's just my opinion; I'm not saying the new features are useless. 🀟
Fantastic I appreciate the response. I have also had a hard time with tagging in amesthyst and I'm not sure if that's relay related or not. The tagging search doesn't seem to prioritize people I'm following or individuals with higher WoT scores
I made plume.website as a web client- it's not great compared to other sites/apps, but the profile view is really handy.
My feed was the same after some or a few relays went down + an issue with my name having ! In it. If you have your own relay, you can resolve a lot of this. My Amethyst is looking much better after spinning up a strfry relay
What's your theory? In recent versions of Ditto I started adding reactions to the home feed. It's as chaotic as you'd imagine and I actually love it. But now that both buttons put things in other people's feeds it makes the repost button almost useless. It's a "neutral to slight agreement" reaction button without an emoji image attached to it.
I like showing reactions actually. The reason people pick one or the other is different. Reactions are for me, and to support the poster. Reposts are me saying HEY EVERYONE THIS IS IMPORTANT YOU SHOULD LOOK AT IT. Obnoxious, but maybe sometimes what you want to do.
Reposts are IMHO crucial especially for popular npubs to signal "this is good content" from someone less popular. For instance, I notice on Mastodon Cory Doctorow almost exclusively posts reposts. As opposed to quotes, which creates a new thread disconnected from the original author, reposts drive traffic back to the OP, which is the intention here.
I don't follow npubs who exclusively repost for this reason, but I like to strike a good balance with mine because that's the main means of discovery on nostr atm. Ftr I tried Ditto for the first time earlier today and found it incredibly chaotic. I was seeing repeat posts over and over. I'll check back in a few months.
I sadly laughed a bit as i immediately reposted this. I appreciate that coracle ui feels warm and that you are holding to your values. I like your version of social media. It makes me rethink my own. Please don't stop building
