⚡🇩🇪 NEW - Germany’s armed forces are facing a major credibility crisis after an investigation found dozens of allegations against the elite 26th Parachute Regiment, including sexual harassment, drug use, and far-right extremism, according to the Financial Times.
The regiment, based in Zweibrücken and numbering about 1,700 soldiers, has deployed to Afghanistan, Mali, and Sudan.
Prosecutors are examining more than a dozen criminal cases, while the Bundeswehr has investigated 55 suspects.
Allegations include Hitler salutes, Nazi-style uniforms, illegal drug use, sexual harassment, antisemitic slurs, and rape threats.
A Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung report described a “far-right, openly antisemitic clique” inside the unit.
Three-star General Harald Gante said he was “practically speechless” over both the abuses and how they were handled.
