For a 5-minute1080p video viewed 100k times end-to-end, the estimated CDN cost if using reasonably performant public cloud at a blended global average might fall in the range of $900 to $1,500. Yes you can use a junk CDN instead, or assume you don't have many viewers from Japan, Korea, SEAsia, Australia, etc. (If viewed just in the US on a low-cost CDN and doing massive volumes with that CDN provider then maybe $150 or $200). But if it's global and the video goes any sort of viral then CDN costs may be pretty daunting. People always focus on the storage. The storage is pennies. It's all about the CDN.

End of the day still comes back to CDN though. For a 5-minute1080p video transcoded to 3-4 web-optimized outputs that'd be like 30 cents or something. But if it went viral then... nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzpwgv8jm36e358cq3qn2unt0hmvzaxejnk9mqrlum9m464qd7v7prqy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummnw3ezucnpdejz7qpqf9ss72h5cqn5zy0e9y5epuumvfgjt0r3xgnrzhllq3eumnjjl75stna6x0
Case in point this Ian Carroll video, for which it's possible the CDN costs will have eaten up most or all of the sats he got zapped. (Though lucky for him he likely didn't pay those costs.)

For those new and curious about the whole value for value exchange on Nostr. This is a great example. Ian has earned about $500 on his first note here on Nostr. View quoted note →
