Julius II was also the Pope who commissioned the current St Peter’s Basillica.
Old movie with Charleton Heston as Michaelangelo also features Julius leading a papal army into battle. Not sure if that last was historically accurate.

didn't get that far, but it is interesting to read about Girolamo Savonarola, who burned books and art - Bonfire of the Vanities, preached about morality and could have changed the renaissance if he led better. His fate was death. And art won.
