Did you know there are hundreds of papers about Springsteen's music? I remember one that talked about how his music always talks about returning home... a rural one. I've only heard two of his discs entirely: Born in the USA and Letter to You. I just found out about the latest one and I'm listening to it.

I did not know that! Makes sense though. His writing, particularly the earlier stuff has a lot of depth. And I think the theme of returning is definitely a salient one. Check out the songs “racing in the street” and “something in the night” from the darkness on the edge of town album. They’re like early Terence malick films in song form. The sense of small-town desperation. Hope and dashed dreams. Middle-aged resignation. All very poignant.
