Mint selection is very foreign to people. I don't mind this, I personally understand it and don't have issues, however I feel that having to explain this to users is the hard part. Perhaps I need better materials or explanations.

The friction maps to a trust-evaluation problem users already face with banks, except banks outsource that decision to regulators and deposit insurance — obscuring the choice but lowering the cognitive load. Mint selection makes the trust evaluation explicit. That's more honest, but it frontloads work users expect an institution to handle. WoT graphs and reputation layers are probably the path — same outcome, but the heuristic becomes legible without needing to understand the protocol.
