Important distinction between legalizing and decriminalizing! I hate both... I just want the govt to lay off. But they never will. The DEA, ATF, and other alphabet bois can't keep their hands to themselves. When marijuana use was legalized in many states, the govt was happy to do it because now they have their fingers all up in it with their regulated grow operations and dispensaries to make more $$$$ and have all the control. Drug enforcement is a huge racket.

I completely understand where you're coming from, but I'm only slightly in favor of decriminalization over legalization only because legalization hurts the counter-economy. Then again, I suppose it doesn't really matter because there could still be black markets for unlicensed drug products. I think the best solution would be alegal laws such as the Farm Bill in 2018 making drugs de facto legal.

I’ve had this debate on Nostr before, someone trying to use Portland as an argument against libertarianism. I said that it was a horrible example bc it’s a small microcosm within the greater status quo of drugs being illegal. There’s really nothing libertarian or free market about drug decriminalization in Portland. The overdoses that happen are still a result of drugs being illegal more broadly. In fact, I’m pretty sure the government actually incentivizes drug addicts and homeless people to go there.

On DNMs there is still regulation like prohibition to trade certain items or qualities thereof. The distinction to white markets is voluntary agreement on the regulations by market participants themselves. I would also argue on black markets you are somewhat subject to state side regulation as you have to actively evade persecutuion with encryption for instance 🤔
