The most fiat disease of our time is living for ones self. You cannot have a meaningful or satisfactory life seeking your own pleasure. Millions upon millions of your ancestors fought through, war, disease, oppression, poverty, rape, natural disaster, slavery, murder, economic hardship, starvation etc… for you to be standing here now. To throw that sacred gift away on hedonism… It will never be anything but empty and meaningless.

I know what he's trying to say, but isn't this an argument for socialism too? I am a selfish mother fucker, and I selfishly choose to have children and teach them to do the same. #[0]
Very unclear to me how you came to the conclusion I am arguing for socialism here lol
Hedonism and selfishness have been blurred into meaning the same thing by socialists imo. Just another attack on words. Being selfish in actions has the potential to end up being what’s best for society (see shire’s example).
That’s very reasonable. I read Atlas last year and enjoyed it a lot, but I am still a bit newer to libertarianism so it probably seemed more novel to me than it would to others.
I always stayed away from her books too. Struck me as the kind of stuff you'd read when you at college then grow out of it
I think the first sentence could have been better. The rest is right. Having kids is a selfish choice and that's great.
You want to keep your own money and not be responsible for anyone you didn't sign up to being responsible for. That's selfish and that's fine. People don't conceptualize selfishness properly imo.
I definitely don’t view children as being a selfish choice. It’s opposite from my perspective. I think forgoing children as being the selfish choice.

Nah Rands message on individualism is correct. These people are taking it too literally. Her message is have your best interest in mind which also is applied to the family unit. When everyone thinks for themselves and by alliance their family they make better choices. I agree with your message. All my coworkers are 30-40 still dating, still partying, no thinking at all about future and legacy. They will wake up one day and find their life has no meaning because they haven’t stopped thinking about only themselves. No long term sustainable thinking.
Why did you have children? I'll answerb for me: - MY legacy - MY purpose - MY enjoyment - to make MY life full and interesting
This is the re-calibrated consciousness of mankind. We have always known it, but we strayed away, and now it is within ourselves to regain it. Thank you to all who have reinvigorated my faith in humanity!
Truth 🕊️ Many feel empty and meaningless because they don’t see the sacred gift. The fiat systems have hidden this special gift from people ether intentionally or not, and now people are losing their mind imho.
I think those are all good and valid reasons. For me it was more about giving. Mainly giving them more than I was given. I don’t think many if any of us have a legacy beyond the people we know in our lifetimes.
Giving them more than you were given to prove to yourself that you are more capable than the person who was supposed to give to you, I bet. Ego, selfishness - fine and healthy.

Having children is more about giving your life purpose & meaning is it not. When you stop thinking only about yourself and now your kids that you need to teach, nurture, take care of and watch grow should give a sense of awakening about what matters and what doesn’t.
The frame on this original question is off for me. This is all modern thinking. Having children is really not a choice. It’s just nature. The way we view it as a choice is kind of weird.
Always had the choice to stick around or not though. It's roughly the same thing as choosing to have or not to have any imo.

Every other mammal on this planet has offsprings. Who are we to decide different? SORRY FOR SPAMMING YOU HODL!! it’s not everyday I see someone posting very similar thoughts to my own. It’s an almost addicting feeling. Keep up the good messages brother! 👍
Selfishness is not greed, but the wanting of living one's life in accordance with their existence of ability. Read 'The Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand
Being a greedy capitalist is all about service to others. That’s how you get them to give you their capital.

I had children because I wanted a full life experience (selfish), but after they arrived I wanted to give them more than I was given, and I likely won’t be around to see it. Legacy doesn’t exist. You’ll barely be remembered a decade after you die. One in 100 million maybe get 100 years.
It depends. Not by everyone, but maybe you can write down a piece of yourself about your life and what you thought was important that some of your descendants with a similar temperament will connect to. Worth the chance imo.
It seems more like he is connecting with eastern philosophy that sees true happiness achieved only when one has become selfless. It’s not about politics, it’s about awareness of the ego and trying to convene with the collective consciousness. You still do things for yourself but the aim of such wisdom is to find happiness through devotion to others and the divine. For we are the others. And we are the divine.
A "fiat disease". That's not a thing. I agree with your sentiment. The most dangerous lie we live with now is solipsism, which is what you are meaning to say. That objectivity in and of itself a bad thing. That Natural Law is incorrect and black can be white, male be female, negative be positive, etc. The crumbling of virtue, morals, and adherance to Natural Law is what creates Hedonism.
Culture rolls downhill from monetary policy. People are only decadent and deranged because they have a financial ability to be. We see this behavior at the end of empires.
Our political debates are about men who want to be women now. Our entire society has lost the plot.

Thats different. Being motivated to provide for loved ones is not collectivism, it’s more like a natural survival instinct.
True spoken, man! This is something that really bothers me from early childhood on. As an only child, I just hated beeing almost forced to live alone by society for ample periods of time...now I just LOVE and enjoy my family life to the most every day. Thats meaning and true purpose of live.
