Today's Thinkings: I've been used to deleting all my posts on other platforms after some time, so it's pretty weird to me that I can't do that here (I can request it but can't do it myself). I like being able to remove posts that no longer resonate with me. Does that bug anybody else?

It’s more a slow death… posts don’t delete but they do rely on someone actually hosting them somewhere, so if that doesn’t happen, the post disappears, at least this is my understanding. Happy to be corrected if I misunderstood.

Technically on traditional social media you’re still requesting it to be deleted, you’re trusting them to actually delete it and not just hide it from view. If you’re worried about it too much then you could always post to your own relay and that relay alone, then you would have full control over the content on that’s posted. But that doesn’t mean someone can’t import it from your relay. Similar to how people can screenshot on Facebook and save it forever. There really is no escape to the foreverness of something posted online that needs redacted later.

I think there is a relay out there that only archives and keeps posts that people ask to be deleted. Can't remember where I heard this, but it makes sense.

I delete or edit just when it makes sense for human readers. No point in trying to appease our government or ai overlords. They will greedily see deletes as additional signal.

We are looking for an investor who can loan our holding company 237,000 US dollars. With this money, we will open a farm in Baku, Azerbaijan to produce animal-based food. We will also make our own animal feed, so our products will be healthier, better quality, and cheaper. Because we sell quality products for less and have strong advertising, we will sell more worldwide and make big profits. Why Azerbaijan? Because animal farming makes a lot of money there, but few people do it. That’s why we will earn more by starting in Azerbaijan. Additionally, by producing our own animal feed, we will be able to sell healthier, higher quality animal products at a lower price. Since we can sell quality products cheaply and thanks to our strong advertising network, we will be able to sell more internationally and make huge profits. The reason for establishing the business in Azerbaijan is that animal husbandry is a very profitable business in Azerbaijan, but since there are very few people doing animal husbandry, establishing the farm in Azerbaijan will provide us with more income. Your profit: You will lend 237,000 US dollars to our holding company and when 22.03.2026 comes, you will receive your money back as 953,000 US dollars. Your earnings will be great. When 22.03.2026 comes, you will get your money back as 953.00 US dollars. You will lend 237,000 US dollars to our holding company and when 22.03.2026 comes, you will receive your money back as 953,000 US dollars. In case you are not just pulling my leg, Amethyst has an edit option. Which I guess is just a "request to replace" a note. Which is really the same as a delete.

The same way an npub is allowed to post notes by signing them, same way it should work for them to sign a request to delete them instantly. Does anyone with knowledge know why this isn’t technically possible yet?
