**Gaza toll rises, vehicle strike kills five**
Israeli strikes across Gaza on October 1 killed eight Palestinians, up from yesterday's seven; a strike on a civilian vehicle in Tal al-Hawa killed five and wounded 15, more than the four reported in that same strike yesterday. Total deaths since last year's ceasefire now stand at about 1,430.
