Hey Alex, Can I give you a slightly longer, shorter answer? Yes, you can pay others for an improved experience, but the true goal is to become self sovereign and pay nothing, instead running everything yourself. A similar journey to Bitcoin self sovereignty. But then I have to be honest, you’re still not going to get the mostly perfect experience you get on corporate social networks. There is no billion dollar engineering team keeping a data centre running. Think of NOSTR as Bitcoin back in 2012/13, it works, pretty well, but is far from perfect. May I take a little time to peak your curiosity as a film maker. The N in NOSTR stands for notes and is the social media functionality. But the rest, “Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays”, is where the really interesting stuff is happening. I wrote these notes a few days ago to explain what’s happening in that arena: View quoted note →

While we're busy arguing over clients right now, the rest of the world is starting to take note of the "other stuff" we're doing here on NOSTR. There's Martti's NOSTR VPN Tailscale replacement: https://nostrvpn.org/ There are several, serious NOSTR Instant message clients based around NIP-17, like npspeak: https://nospeak.chat/ There are NOSTR file hosting clients like DTAN server, a NOSTR native Torrent that doesn't require central co-ordinator site: https://github.com/v0l/dtan-server There are Blossom servers like Route96: https://github.com/v0l/route96 There's nostrmail, a cross-platform email encryption tool that bridges Nostr and email protocols: https://nostr-mail.com/ And probably many more. Look up. This may be one of those slowly, then suddenly moments.
