That's the main difference I think. HAMSTR was designed for decentralized long range comms. While it works on reticulum network over lora, but that can also tie into vhf and HF radios, IP, etc... Not that I created it or fully get it, but RN is not designed as a competitor for mesh. Mesh is just one aspect. It was designed to be a decentralized encrypted replacement for tcpip. I only added RN support for those who can't, won't, or don't know how to use ham radios.
Then HAMSTR it is. HF radio to a server, running as a relay to not quite implemented yet, but soon. Reticulum can do this on its own or using nostr over HAMSTR. Encryption over HF bands however are illegal as is in many places. But in grid down, or other government control issues, all bets off.
