Bitcoin Arithmetic – Filling in the Blanks: How Confirmations Work
Imagine you tell your friend you gave a candy to another friend, and your friend counts it five times to make sure it really happened. In Bitcoin, every transaction is checked many times by many computers. Each check is called a “confirmation.” The more confirmations, the safer the payment is. Even if one computer makes a mistake, the others catch it. Confirmations keep everyone honest and protect against cheating.
