I'm running lnd testnet on my server and so far no problems. Also setting up lightning through Zeus wallet is pretty easy. And Phoenix Wallet manages the hard part themselves. I think Lightning is great for instant payments. I don't know if merchants are willing to take unconfirmed on-chain transactions. Depends on the fee. But they won't see the fee.
