Committee of Relatives of Political Prisoners Denounces | Serious Allegations Regarding the Situation in Yare II: Hunger, Beatings, and Threats Family members report that detainees in Yare II are suffering from hunger: the food is reportedly very poor, insufficient, and they depend almost entirely on the small amount of food that authorities allow them to receive every 15 days, during a visit that lasts only 20 minutes. Furthermore, it is reported that several detainees have been beaten and that their families have been threatened to prevent them from reporting these abuses. The prisoners are allegedly receiving constant beatings and physical assaults, resulting in extensive bruises on various parts of their bodies. These allegations reflect possible cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment, prohibited by the constitution, international law, and contrary to the Mandela Rules. We call on the country to firmly condemn these deplorable conditions to which innocent people are being subjected in cruel prisons, which demonstrate the unconstitutional, cruel, and inhumane nature of a system that seeks to deepen state terrorism, transgressing human dignity. We also make an urgent call to the international community—human rights organizations, multilateral mechanisms, and democratic governments—to raise their voices, activate their monitoring and accountability mechanisms, and support the families who are denouncing these events today to prevent irreparable harm and guarantee the protection of those detained for political reasons in #Venezuela. #FreePoliticalPrisoners #FreedomForAll image
