Saint Andrew, brother of Simon Peter, was fishing in Galilee when Jesus called him to be an apostle. He left his nets immediately and became the first disciple, the "First-Called." Andrew introduced Peter to Christ and preached the Gospel throughout Scythia, modern-day Romania, and Greece, establishing churches and converting many. He was crucified in Patras on an X-shaped cross, now known as Saint Andrew's Cross, for refusing to renounce his faith.
