It depends on who you ask and how clear a sense of their own identity that person has. I think have articulated my own identity as an American national, with a massive hat tip to John Jay, clear. There are a lot of people living here that don't even know what a nation actually is, much less what the six elements of being an American are. I can't answer for them regardless.
