Primal is great for newbies and has a great UI, but it doesn’t work very well. They also use private backend caching relays to attempt to make the experience more user friendly. “Proper clients” often don’t look great but generally work better. I use Primal on desktop, but switch to Damus on iPhone or Amethyst on Android when I need NOSTR to work.
There is an option to copy and paste you nsec (private key). Apologies, I don't know what the exact terminoligy it will use, but something like "I already have an account" or "Paste in your Private Key" If you're not sure where to find your nsec, look in the key management section of your existing client. I wrote some articles about NOSTR here: I would start with this one here for some basic concepts:
Primal is fine, but makes trade offs on decentralization for UX. Also their DMs (supported by many clients) leak metadata, don't use them.
