I prefer the wooden pieces. Why did they switch to plastic? Is it cheaper to produce?

Didn’t want to say it :D! For compact/mobile edition, I guess plastic is ok. It is probably also much cheaper.

Yeah, the wooden pieces are nicer. But this one is much smaller and can be played during a car journey.
