A report into government appointments to boards has found that candidates or friends are too often picked for political purposes or past loyalties.
The Albanese government has sat on the review by Lynelle Briggs — dubbed an investigation into "jobs for mates" — since 2023.
Public Services Minister Katy Gallagher has unveiled a new framework for government appointments in response, however the government has rejected a number of key recommendations.
The framework will also not be legislated, which Senator Gallagher has said is unnecessary because it will need to be followed even if it is not law.
Observers believe Anthony Albanese is the main driver of limiting information. We know for certain he is not a fan of freedom of information — the current bill for changes to FOI (Freedom Of Information) that the government has before parliament would (further) inhibit access to information about what is happening at senior levels of government.
