Some don't know better and were taught middle class lessons and never ventured out to learn about other asset classes. Some also don't have more than enough to cover mortgage to delve into other asset classes. Overall, each person experience is different and their access to capital is relative as well. I'd say the inflation increases wealth vs income gap at the end of the day. Then those with wealth will try to spread the risk. And housing is one asset class to choose from.
