John, a merchant, traveled to Cetatea Albă. A Venetian merchant, envious of John's honesty and success, falsely accused him of renouncing his Christian faith to the city's governor. Despite torture, John refused to deny Christ. He was beaten, dragged through the streets tied to a horse, and finally beheaded. His body was then burned. However, his heart, remaining whole and untouched by the flames, was taken by Christians and enshrined as a relic.
