My guess is that Nostr has a high population of (mostly former) X users. They're not used to having full conversations, and prefer to jump to conclusions and react before getting any clarification or understanding. Maybe after enough years on Nostr, they'll become human again. Until then, it's best to mute, or ignore, people that prefer bashing someone before being informed.

Speaking from personal experience, I didn't learn about logical fallacies until I was in my 30s and I'm an applied mathematician by degree. One would think that logical fallacies would have been covered in pursuit of mathematics, computer science, law, and philosophy degrees but no. I had to learn about them from a home schooled engineer with whom I worked. I don't think it is in the interests of the hegemons to teach the plebs how to discern the manipulation tactics used by hegemons to control plebs, so such forms of discernment are omitted intentionally from government (and religious) school curricula. Let's hope that people continue to level themselves up with time. The alternative is Idiocracy. I'm at peace with being muted by idiots, and I'm happy to mute them in return. That eliminates some amount of friction in my interactions on NOSTR going forward. Appreciate your perspective. In the shitshow that was yesterday, a few good ones, such as yourself, emerged from the dog pile.

Ironically, I learned about critical thinking in Catholic school. I've been starting to notice in the last two years how much our public indoctrination schools have impacted society as a whole by omitting the teachings of discernment and logic.

I’m starting to think this pattern of interaction is a natural outgrowth from this format of internet interaction. It’s such a hook, and I fear it’ll just grow on Nostr, just as it thrives on Twitter. Make a purity statement > act appalled when people have reasonable disagreements with the totality of the statement > frame all pushback as diametrical opposition and usually proof of moral corruption. Then just keep picking at the scab as long as it gets attention. Conversations like this are just kinda buried. It’ll keep happening because it works.
