We made the difficult decision to sell off our cattle breeding herd this winter. Time will tell if it was a good decision, but looking around at the state of things it seems to our benefit to take the next steps towards self sufficiency and in source more of our homestead activity.
Spending several thousands of dollars every winter on hay wasn't getting us anywhere and our end goal, which may or may not be attainable, is complete self reliance with food production. For livestock, this means significantly under stocking our resource base and focusing on our needs.
Next week's video will bring more clarity for our future plans.

What state are you in and how big is your property? Have you read the book "kicking the hay habit"?
I have read that book. It's been a while though.
