Most will die with either being in debts or being robbed a last time by goverment, 50% in my current jurisdiction, for what you left for your offspring.
Don't forget:
Your income was heavily taxed.
For most, while saving and making some money that gain was taxed.
And most likely those gains where at Best good enough to just offset inflation...
I won't even start about the period before you die.....
