I think that history will mark 2020 as a huge pivot point... The one-two punch of COVID and George Floyd took political polarization to entirely new levels.
You now have two sides that, in their more extreme states of fear, genuinely believe that the other side is engaged in a program of political marginalization and even outright genocide directed at them.
This misses the point that these two tragedies and their upstream/downstream effects are primarily failures of State action.
Don't fear your neighbor, fear the ones who take power in the name of keeping you "safe". #libertarian
