Saint Gherasim lived as a hermit near the Tismana Monastery. During a time of turmoil, when the monastery was threatened, he refused to reveal the location of its treasures to invaders. He was tortured and ultimately martyred for his unwavering loyalty and faith, choosing to protect the sacred objects over his own life.
