China cares a lot less about the US than Americans like to think. The US really isn't that important anymore, and China needs AI for their own domestic reasons. The reason Chinese startups go open source is because they aren't retards. It's a better strategy than doing everything closed source, just like conducting science in the open is a better strategy. It invites more peer review and attracts better talent. US companies have forgotten all these hard earned lessons.
