The following is a quote from Hitchhiker's Guide.
"The ship hung in the air in much the same way that bricks don't. The brain just edits it out, it’s like a blind spot. If you look at it directly you won’t see anything unless you know precisely what it is. Your only chance is to catch a brief glimpse out of the corner of your eye."
