On first instinct, we would say education has failed, and that is the reason a communist has won the mayorship of New York City.
On deeper analysis, maybe the education system is performing exactly as designed. Create a system that isn’t free. Convince people that capitalism is the system they are operating under. Tell them that freedom is granted by the State. Gaslight people into believing the system is actually free. The people will yearn for a solution opposite of what they are taught. Have the population unlearn accountability and responsibility.
