I always find great comfort in his words. He had to put up with an insane amount of BS on a daily basis as emperor and still ended up being a pretty awesome human being

Yeah correct. Did you read „Meditations“ or „The Daily Stoic“ by Ryan Holiday?
Both.
I first stumbled onto Marcus Aurelius as a Stoic in Donald Robertson's work Stoicism and the Art of Happiness, then devoured Ryan Holiday's books, then finally went to the source material itself, Meditations. I feel that it helps to have a modern translation though, or its a slog.
