We like easy solutions.
Fact checking and proving things for yourself is hard. You cannot even prove everything due to your knowledge, and gaps.
I think this is the reason that we tend to believe things easily from authority, and experts. Because they must know better.
Also fact checking things you dont really care about seems a wasted effort, so you just believe it anyway.
