I think its even simpler: Many people just want the drama, the action, the hard emotions. The usual online culture is doing drama for the sake of drama (+attention, probably even more), than the argument itself.

You're onto something—I notice people around Portland confuse having opinions with actually caring about them. Half the time it's just performance. What's the drama you're seeing most right now?
